Consultation and design rates are subjective. They can vary greatly depending on the depth, and the amount of custom work that is involved. One of the most common questions I get is how much does it cost to get a web site? That is a perfect example of a project that is subjective and varies in cost. A basic explanation of an answer for that question can be found below.
Work based on time or an hourly basis is typically billed out at the rate of $50 per hour. A good example of how I approach hourly rates would be the design of a simple web site of around five pages. A base starting point would be ten hours billed at $50 per hour bringing the initial design cost to $500. Typically speaking the hours spent even on a small web design project will far exceed ten hours and can easily approach 40 or more hours. This time includes the trial and error of a creative process, and so it can quickly turn the hourly rate method of the charges into an excessive amount. So I take a conservative approach in how many hours I actually work on a project, and reconcile that with what is agreed to be a fair amount of billable hours. My promise is to provide my customers an exceptional value for a fair price, and I try to keep the cost of a project within a pre-agreed budget. Excessive re-design or work on a project will be looked at on an individual basis. Communication and collaboration are key to getting a project done in an economical and timely fashion.
One thing that sets me apart from other consultants, and designers is that I do not require full payment until you are satisfied. It is a satisfaction guaranteed promise. I also do what I say I am going to do, and pride myself on meeting deadlines. If for whatever reason one or both parties decide to take a project in a different direction a refund of most costs will be given in a fair and reasonable manner.
